Youth MHFA is an internationally recognised programme that originated in Australia and is licensed to national organisations for instructor training in individual countries. The course can be delivered over two days or in shorter 1.5 hour modules. It can be used to complement any existing training that staff receive and can be targeted at particular groups to support care management strategies.
The intention of this programme is to promote awareness of psychological, emotional well-being and mental health issues. The two day course is designed to be delivered to those working with, living with or caring for young people aged 11 to 18.
By training "mental health first aiders" within the community and the workplace, Youth MHFA aims to tackle the prejudice and stigma traditionally associated with mental health problems, and to improve outcomes for 11-18 year olds and their families who are affected.
Key areas covered within the programme include:
- Promoting emotional, mental, social and psychological well-being
- Diversity and equality issues
- Child, adolescent and family psychosocial development
- Depression/Anxiety/Psychosis
- Suicide
- Self Harm
- Eating Disorders
- Bullying/Cyber bullying
- Substance/Alcohol misuse
- Promoting protective factors and good parenting
The course is delivered over seven days, an outline can be found here. If you are an existing approved MHFA instructor please contact us to arrange delivering Youth MHFA as well.
Costs:
The full 7 day training programme costs £2,060 plus VAT. This covers the 7 days training, the instructors toolkit, a marketing toolkit, the course manual and DVD, log in and advertising on this website and one to one mentor support throughout training and a year afterwards.
