"Hard as it is to link passion with outsourcing, this is what makes MITIE different.  We specialise in outsourcing. And we like to think we're the best. We work in close partnership with our clients to provide everything from strategic consultancy to service delivery. In simple terms, we think, we manage and we deliver on their behalf."

In addition to its `Real Apprentice` scheme MITIE also ran a 16-week, part-time pilot scheme in partnership with Working for Wellness - an organisation focused on supporting people with mental health issues back to work.  Working for Wellness has since secured agreement from Jobcentre Plus to allow flexibility for anyone wanting to switch to full-time employment and retain their benefits. Improving Access to Psychological Therapies in Camden, Ealing and Southwark took part.

MITIE managers and mentors also now attend the MHFA course.

logo for moodmapping

Developed by Dr Liz Miller, mood mapping is a new easy-to-learn tool that helps you feel better, healthier and more in control of your life.

You start by plotting your mood on a mood map and then implement strategies that help your mood become more positive.

The key to consistent energy and feeling good is to ensure your moods are under control. By learning to understand and master them, we can be ‘captain of our soul' and ‘master of our fate'.

What's more, once you learn to manage your own moods, you can help people around you to manage theirs - your children, your partner, your friends, your team, and the people who come to you for advice.

logo for shift

Shift is the Department of Health-funded initiative to tackle stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues in England. Our aim is to create a society where people who experience mental health problems enjoy the same rights and opportunities as other people. There are currently 3 projects working towards this aim: The Shift Line Managers' Resource (a guide to managing and supporting people with mental health problems in the workplace),  Review Panel (in partnership with Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, a service for employers that reviews materials and signposts employers to ‘quality checked' mental health materials and resources) and Employment Films (three short films designed to raise awareness of mental health problems and discrimination in the workplace.)

logo for money made clear

The Consumer Financial Education Body (CFEB) was formed in April 2010 as a separate organisation to the Financial Services Authority. CFEB is responsible for helping consumers understand financial services in the UK and manage their finances better.

Money problems can worsen people's mental health and those with mental illness are more likely to experience financial problems and debt. Improving people's ability and understanding of their money matters can assist their recovery through improved psychological wellbeing, life satisfaction, and reduced risk of anxiety/depression. Improving Financial Capability improves mental wellbeing and reduces risk of anxiety/depression. CFEB has a free and impartial website (link below) and telephone service (0300 500 5000) to assist people with financial guidance. CFEB will be rolling out face to face Money Guides across the Country during 2010/11 Given the increase in people having individual budgets it may be helpful if they have financial guidance. Specific work in mental health and financial capability is being developed with CFEB and this will be reported as the pilots develop. CFEB offer a wealth of information, resources and interactive tools to help people make informed decisions about money. There is no selling, no jargon, just the facts.
